The Bay Area commercial real estate market experienced an exceptional and unprecedented year in 2014. To acknowledge the companies, brokers and clients involved with the most memorable and significant transactions, the San Francisco Business Times hosted the Real Estate Deals of the Year Awards at the Four Seasons Hotel on Thursday, March 26th, 2015.
The results of this prestigious annual awards ceremony once again demonstrated that Cushman & Wakefield continues to win and execute the most iconic transactions in virtually every corner of the San Francisco Bay Area. Cushman & Wakefield, Northern California was victorious in the following categories:
BEST REGIONAL INDUSTRIAL DEAL
Cherry Logistics Center in Newark, for representing Amazon (by John McManus) in the 575,000 sf logistics center lease. This was the largest warehouse to be built in the Bay Area in the last 15 years and the largest industrial lease in the East Bay in the last five years.
Subsequently, C&W sold the massive facility on behalf of the owner to MetLife in a record breaking transaction for industrial product (executed by John McManus and our Capital Markets team of George Eckard, Seth Siegel, Grant Lammersen and Adam Lasoff). C&W now manages the facility for MetLife.
BEST REGIONAL R&D DEAL
Illumina Campus in Foster City, for representing Illumina in the three building 360,000 sf build to suit transaction, with an option for Illumina to take another 160,000 sf. This was the largest life sciences deal of the year in the Bay Area.
Steve Rosetta of our San Diego office spearheaded the effort and assembled a Bay Area team of Rich Hardy, Anthony Rosetta and Jeff Cushman to work with him in executing this transaction.
BEST SAN FRANCISCO OFFICE LEASE
Salesforce Tower lease for 714,000 sf. This is the largest lease in San Francisco history, with C&W representing Salesforce (Dan Harvey, Tori Hockersmith, Michael Griffiths and Anna Jensen) as well as the landlords, Boston Properties and Hines (JD Lumpkin and Mark McGranahan).
BEST OFFICE SALE IN SAN FRANCISCO
The acquisition of 50 Fremont by Salesforce (represented by Dan Harvey and Grant Lammersen) in a direct deal with TIAA-CREF. This 43-story 817,449 sf transaction is the largest purchase of a building by a tenant in San Francisco history.
OVERALL REGIONAL DEAL OF THE YEAR
The Salesforce transactions were jointly recognized as Deal of the Year.
It is also to be noted that C&W was the other finalist in the BEST SURBURBAN OFFICE LEASE category for representation of Ellie Mae (by Mitch Hertz, Bill Dougherty, Sabrina Hughes and Josh Nelson) in the 105,452 sf lease in Pleasanton – the largest lease last year in the I-680 corridor.
Also worthy of note is that our client, Ford Fish (Global Real Estate Director for Salesforce) was recognized as DEALMAKER OF THE YEAR – an award won by Executive Vice Chairman Dan Harvey two years ago.
Immediately following the awards ceremony, Joe Cook, Market Leader for C&W’s San Francisco office and West Region President said: ” If one really stops to think about these deals – Amazon is transforming the e-commerce world; Illumina is transforming the Life Sciences field; Salesforce is transforming the cutting edge technology world; Ellie Mae is transforming the software industry in the residential mortgage field. Essentially, Cushman & Wakefield is truly transforming the way the world works, shops and lives.”
